Mathematical model predicts ethnic violence  A paper appearing the September 14 issue of Science could represent the first step toward ending ethnic conflicts. NECSI researchers Yaneer Bar-Yam, May Lim and Richard Metzler have constructed a mathematical model that is able to predict the most likely locations of ethnic violence based on census data.
